25 Days of Christmas Desserts Day 19: Thumbprint Cookies

Thumbprints are one of the classic Christmas cookies that my family makes every year. They are so simple but yet so delicious! I’ll post the recipe I found down below.

Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
2/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup whatever jam you choose

Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon cream or milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Beat butter until creamy.
3. Add sugar, vanilla, and almond extract.
4. Pour flour into wet ingredients. Beat until the dough is soft.
5. Press down flat, cover with plastic wrap, and chill for 4 hours.
6. Shape dough into balls and place on a cookie sheet with parchment paper. If they are soft place back in the fridge for a few minutes.
7. Press thumb into cookies and fill with jam.
8. Bake for 14-15 minutes.
9. Stir all the glaze ingredients together and let the cookies chill for 30 minutes before glazing.
